Sulkin Raven (S/T) - EP

Who is Sulkin’ Raven?

Sulkin’ Raven is a North Hollywood-based music producer, live streamer, and composer for video games; Kevin De Nicolo. Kevin's work has appeared in mobile games such as BentoBlox and Super Peach Boy available on iPhone and the feature-length indie film "X" releasing online in 2021. Kevin releases music independently as Sulkin' Raven; his latest release is a re-make of his 2018 debut EP, releasing its third anniversary on January 20th, 2021.

A child of Silicon Valley, Kevin grew up around computers, video games, and technology. Kevin discovered music in his teen years, playing guitar with rock bands for nearly a decade, while over time delving deeper and deeper into more eclectic forms of music made on computers while the rock bands become increasingly experimental. Kevin's journey into electronic music while studying cinema at San Francisco State University led him down a road where he discovered a passion for video game music and composing for visual mediums. Kevin collaborated with former classmates to produce films and music videos that he would also compose music for a while, releasing music independently as Sulkin' Raven.

Kevin also has a love for producing online content. He live-streams ambient electronic music, performs DJ sets, and plays his favorite video games live on his Twitch.tv channel. The archives of all of Kevin's live-streams can also be found on his YouTube channel, along with music videos and footage of live performances. Kevin also creates a large amount of visual content for his Sulkin' Raven content.

Sulkin’ Raven - Self Titled E.P. (2021 Re-release)

On January 20th, 2021, Kevin re-released the first music the world had ever heard from Sulkin' Raven.

"When I wrote this EP back in 2016, it was the first time I set out to release music on my own without any collaborators. I had worked with my band members or worked with filmmakers on musical projects in the past but never solely by myself, so this was a new adventure for me. At the time, I was still very unsure how to capture the sound in my head, and what I ended up releasing wasn't very representative of what I wanted at the time. I didn't know who I was as an independent artist, and I lacked the skills to manifest the sounds in my head without others' help. Following my first EP's release, I continued to experiment and develop as an artist, leading to better and better music from Sulkin' Raven. Now I feel like I have found myself as a craftsman, a composer, and an artist. Because I was so unsure of myself when releasing my first EP, I never promoted the songs much because I knew deep down they weren't me, and they weren't representative of the sounds that were in my heart. Now I've re-made, re-shaped, and re-released the EP, bringing it up to my current standard for my music. Now it’s a release I'm truly proud of and something I feel excited to share with everyone in the world."

The EP creates a new flavor of nostalgia not quite heard before. The familiar sounds that trigger childhood memories are present, but the modern approach to songwriting and production makes you feel as though your memories have grown up with you. Nothing stays the same forever, we change while we grow up in our lives and these sounds allow us to time travel in our minds back to a simpler time. Maybe those sounds can also grow up with us, providing comfort and good feelings to make the future feel that much more bright.
